After graduating college, I became a mentor through a program called “Mentor. I was also a teacher assistant at Sandhills Farmlife Elementary and bus driver all during this time frame. During my time as a teacher assistant, I developed a love for teaching younger children. My first encounter that led me to want to become an educator was the day I had to be the lead teacher. I was responsible for teaching the lesson. Seeing the eager looks and exciting energy of the students instilled a love for wanting to further my education and teach. My son also has played an integral part for my passion to teach. When my son was diagnosed with ADHD that further pushed me to want to serve and educate children. This allowed me to become aware that all students learn differently and that all children are capable of learning despite the differences they possess. In 2015 I decided to go back to school to further my education in the field in which I had become so passionate about. During this time, I received my B. S. degree at Ashford University. During my learning experience at Ashford, I have learned how children developed, the importance of child development, and how to foster child development through age-appropriate activities, and building relationships. I taught for five years at Merrick Moore Elementary for Durham County public school as a 3rd grade teacher. I am currently teacher 6th grade math at Cedar Creek Middle. It is my hope that through these experiences, I will be an effective educator and possibly pursue my role as a principal.
